Writing is usually a gateway for people to express themselves, but for me it has always been a pitfall. However, a time I overcame a difficulty with writing was during my junior year of high school. As a final project we were assigned to write a research paper, about any topic of our choice. It was my first research paper ever, so I thought writing the paper would be harder than what it actually turned out to be. Don’t get me wrong, it was still difficult and time consuming, but not as extreme as I thought it would be. I overcame the difficulty of writing a research paper by doing it step by step, first I chose a topic, then I did the research, and finally I wrote the paper. Starting the assignment was the easy part because all I had to do was choose a topic. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write about at first, but I knew I didn’t want to choose a boring and pointless topic. After doing some research, I decided to do my paper over the poverty level in the United States of America. When I chose a topic, my assignment started to get difficult because I had to find sources for that topic. I remember searching on Google, ‘poverty in the United States,’ and I came across thousands upon thousands of sources, that I could have chosen. There was a variety of sources from books to online articles to videos, so it was overwhelming to choose the right ones.
