Saturn Corporation

Supply chain management plays a very important role in the success of manufacturers in the changing economy. As fast as the demands from consumers change a manufacturer must be able to adapt to those changes and make the necessary changes within their company to continue to serve and meet the needs that are expected of them. There are five major external forces that continue to drive the rate of change: globalization, technology, organizational consolidation, the empowered consumer, and government policy and regulation. Technology has enhanced the power of the consumers by allowing vast amounts of information via the Internet. This has also allowed less modernized countries to become more of an interest to big retail giants and outsourcing as grown. A company such as Saturn Corporation must understand the forces and be willing to adapt to whatever is necessary to ensure they continue to provide the products that are demanded by the consumers. Saturn Corporation mission is to “market vehicles developed and manufactured in the United States that are world leaders in quality, cost, and customer satisfaction through the integration of people, technology, and business systems.” Saturn Corporation sits on a 4.3 million-square-foot complex and is managed as an integrated system from the source of raw materials to the final…
