Emergence of Cognitive Psychology as a Discipline The late 1970's brought about the birth of the Cognitive Science Society. The topics of domination were a depiction of knowledge and high-level cognitive processes. Alan Newell and Herb Simon performed pioneering work using artificial intelligence and psychology, simulating human problem solving (Gentner, 2010). These strands continued to be interactive during the 1960's and 1970's. This lead to a formal society to solidify the new discipline, therefore the Cognitive Science Society was born. The balance of disciplines has drastically changed over time. Cognitive psychology could essentially gain a tremendous amount from the other cognitive sciences. It is obvious that neighboring disciplines provide useful methods. One example would be psychologists using syntactic tests from linguists. On a deeper level, the various disciplines of cognitive science differ in the questions asked (Gentner, 2010).
