It is common for patients with limited English proficiency (LEP) to have a negative healthcare experiences and outcomes related to communication barriers. This experience may lead to an increased frustration between the health care providers and LEP patients (Sentell & Braun, 2012). Moreover, the LEP patient’s frustrations may lead to a mistrust for the health car providers and may have a negative impact on health care delivery system and healthcare outcome for the LEP patients and their community(Sentell, 2012). Providing interpreter services for LEP patients are a cost effective way to enhance the delivery of health care to patients with LEP and closed the health care disparity among the LEP populations (Sentell, 2012).

The study by Jimenez, Moreno, Leng, Buchwald, and Morales, (2012), was to determine whether the interpreter use was associated with quality of acute pain treatment among Latina patients with limited English proficiency (Jimenez et al., 2012). The study design was based on secondary analysis of two cross-sectional surveys, and the participants involved 185 female Latino patients who were hospitalized for obstetric and gynecological care who required interpreter services (Jimenez et al., 2012). These female patients were divided into groups of interpreter availability; always with the interpreter services; not always ' available with the interpreter services (Jimenez et al., 2012).
