There are many definitions of corporate social responsibility which represent different assumptions. According to the Textbook Fundamentals of Management CSR is defined as “”The obligation of organizational management to make decisions and take actions that will enhance the welfare and interests of society as well as the organization’” (Samson and Daft 2012: 183). CSR has been an ongoing issue over the past decades. Businesses ' main motive is to earn profits, however, now CSR is also a main motive for striving businesses. This paper will discuss the concept of “CSR”, and a brief overview of the history of CSR, it will define the phrase and identify some theories relating to CSR by using examples to further analyse the concepts and will emphasize the important of CSR by comparing both the advantages and disadvantages (Trong Tuan 2012, pg. 547)
The evolution of CSR has occurred since the 1950’s, however, it was referred to as Social responsibility not cooperate social responsibly because it was assumed that the business sector was not as predominant in this certain era. Howard. R Bowen in 1953 published a book named Social responsibilities on the businessman because in that era women did not work, this is how CSR evolved (Carroll 1999, pg. 287). He believed that there are hundreds of businesses in the world and each business had the power to change the way they make decisions.
