After reviewing a few different internet websites I chose to write about five that I found informative and engaging. The websites talked about different ways people look at poverty. Some look at behavior and characteristics which can create stereotypes. Looking at students in these ways can influence a teacher and create classroom management that isn’t a one size fits all plan. www.ahaprocess.com After watching the fourteen year old talk about Ruby Payne I had to go and look at this website. The Aha Process site is very interesting when it comes to understanding its view on poverty. I’m sure she has her reasons why she feels the way she does, but the stereotypes and cultural misrepresentations are unfortunate. She feels that poverty can be changed with ten easy steps you can take back to your classroom to achieve impact. I’m sure there is more to it, but it makes me feel like she is concentrating on a niche market and on teachers who see her as an expert. I was a salesman who sold medical supplies for nine years, it seems like a sales pitch to me. I work in a school that next year will be 100% free and reduce breakfast and lunch. I’m sure that I could take away at least one thing that I could use in my classroom, but ten easy steps. After teaching third grade this year at Audubon, I learned one thing and that is “impacting” students isn’t easy. It takes hard work and dedication to make school fun and engaging which takes a lot more than ten steps.…
