Nursing is one of the fastest-growing professions in the United States. However, the American Nurses Association (ANA) predicted that the nursing shortage (NS) will strike to 1 million by the year 2020. In this essay, the student will describe the significance of the NS problem, discuss the effective nursing leadership and management( NLM) in practice. Address the communication and leadership (LS) style. Identify the advantages and disadvantages the different LS style. Compare and contrast the LS style and the solution to deal with the NS problem. NS is the imbalance of nurse supply and nurse demand (Huber,2014). According to Huber (2014), NS is the market for employment of nurses outpaces the possible supply of nurses prepared to be employed at a given wage. An NS is not simply lack staffing, but also can happen in circumstances of imbalance, or depending on local elements such as lack resources or inadequate working conditions (Huber,2014). Researchers state that there are the several reasons causes the NS. The population grows, and the aging of the Baby Boom generation will create an increased need for nursing care. Meanwhile, the current aging nursing workforce retired just as is the general population. NS is at continuing event. Other elements contributing to the NS include inflation and educational bottlenecking which is limiting the growth of nursing.
