The setting in a story can be the place where the story takes place like a university campus, a castle, or can describe the time period, when the story is taking place like whether the story is taking place in the 1800s’ or 2000s’ or another setting can also be the mood of a story. The third setting would be the mood or atmosphere in which the story is told and presented to the audience. The mood of a story includes how the story begins whenever it starts with a person saying: “I remember the day that I decided I would never live in the village again” Island of The Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell or somebody else saying:” Once there was a gentleman who married, for his second wife, the proudest and most haughty woman that was ever seen.” Cinderella by Charles Perrault. One starts like a sad story and the other one starts like a love story. The beginning of a story is always the element that set up the mood for the audience to start reading but most of the stories may start good and end an unexpected way especially in the dramatic stories like Anastasia when she thought she and her little brother were safe after hiding in the woods but in the end, they died. The setting is supposed to include the place where the story takes place, the time period, the mood atmosphere, the weather conditions and the social conditions. Each story has at least one setting but it is necessary to know the place where the story is going to happen and the time period because it is the foundation to know what the story is going to be about.
