Paragraphs on Word Types An action verb is a verb that tells what action someone or something is performing. An action verb can be either a physical (kick, play) or mental verb (think, like). Action verbs can also be ten of the twelve linking verbs except (became or seem). Action verbs can be either a transitive verb or an intransitive verb. The way you answer this question is by asking “what” right after the action verb. Helping verbs can also help the action verb indicate a tense or possibility (might eat, had ate).

Some sentences have two or more subjects. A compound subject is two or subjects that have the same verb and are joined by a conjunction such as and or or. A compound verb is two or more verbs that have the same subject and are joined by a conjunction such as and or or.
The verb list consist of action verbs, linking verb, and helping verbs. Action verbs are either mental or physical verbs, they can also be ten of the twelve except become and seem.

At last, verb tests. These are tests used to find a verb in a sentence. If you put an indefinite or definite article in front of it then and it doesn’t make sense then it is a verb. It is a transitive verb if directly after the verb you can answer the question “what” if not then it is a intransitive verb. Also if you use one of the twelve linking verb is substituted for is, am, or are and it makes sense then it is a linking verb, if not then it is an action
