Equality between the sexes. People who strive to achieve this goal are called feminists. This is an idea that everyone usually talks about once in their life, and of course everyone has their own opinion about the topic. However, even in the year 2016, gender inequality is still happening and there are so many people out there who are working so hard to even make some difference in this matter. Feminism is still a big topic in today’s society, and cannot be fixed unless it is talked about and even men step up and talk about this issue too.
What Even Is Feminism? In today’s world, when people hear that someone (usually a woman) is a feminist or feminist, they automatically think they are a man hating person. However, if someone did that and they were calling themselves a feminist then they are just contradicting themselves. According to Tina Phillips, author of The Role of Men in the Feminist Movement mentions that feminism means, “The feminist movement aims to achieve an egalitarian non-hierarchical society in which all people are treated equally, regardless of sex or gender” (2015, p. 12). She uses some big words, but this statement basically means equality between the sexes. Of course just like many other things in the world, there are radical feminists out there. Again, just like with religions, people see those people and automatically believe that all women hate men and think they are all pigs. However, that is not the case.
