“Feminism is a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common goal: to define establish, and achieve equal political, economic, personal, and social rights for women. This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment.” Before we begin to answer whether or not Miley Cyrus is a feminist, we need to understand the true meaning of what feminism really is. Meanings range from an array of options, however, it comes down to what a person truly believes in. It only feels like yesterday when the controversial Miley hosted the MTV Video Music Awards. She raised many eyebrows with her numerous costume changes, which challenged television censors to its limits. In addition to this headlining gig, she has not been shy of getting her image in debate at the big stage. This also includes her sexual performance at the 2013 VMA’s that featured Robin Thicke. Even though she may not have openly admitted that she is a feminist, there is no doubt that she is truly changing the social stigma of “being in our own shell.” Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O’Connor is often linked to Cyrus due to the open letter O’Connor sent because of Cyrus’ recent Rolling Stone cover story.
