My Best Friend At The Summer Of My Senior Year At High School

I found out I was having a baby, the summer of my senior year in high school. At the time I felt overwhelmed and confused, not really sure what to do. One thing I knew for sure was that I didn’t want to be another statistic. High school teen mom, later drop out. I had planned to attend Langston University with my best friend at the time. I knew that if I decided to keep the baby, my college plan would have to wait a while. I had a conversation with my friend and decided that I was going to keep my baby. I then made a promise to my unborn child, I’d never drop out of high school and will later go to college.

I gave birth to my baby girl 1/11/0. I took off from high school for a couple of months. I returned as soon as the doctor released me to return. Lucky for me, I only needed a half of a credit to graduate from high school. So I went to one class in the morning and went to a parenting class after lunch. That gave me time to learn the necessary skills to care for my baby. I graduated from high school May of 2003. I would say that was a day of triumph for me. I told my baby girl that day, “I’ve completed the first goal”.

I then decided to go to cosmetology school, since it was my passion at the time. I’ve always dreamed of owning my on spa salon someday. Going to cosmetology was a rewarding experience. I learned then, I can’t be around too many women at the same time. It was crazy as heck. We had disagreements on simple things. Women was chopping their hair off all day long…
