Nursing is the second fast-growing professions in the United States. However, the American Nurses Association (ANA) predicted that the nursing shortage (NS) will reach to 1 million RNs by the year 2020 ( Zinn, Guglielmi, Davis, & Moses, (2012). In this essay, the student will discuss the significance of the nursing shortage problem; describe the differing approaches to nursing leadership and management to the issues in practice. Address the communication and leadership style. Identify the advantage and disadvantage. Compare and contrast the different solution to deal with the problem.
A nursing shortage (NS) is at condition in which the delicate balance of nurse supply and nurse demand is not at equilibrium (Huber, 2014). According to Huber (2014), NS is the condition in which the market for employment of nurses outpaces the possible supply of nurses prepared to be employed at a given wage. NS is, in fact, not just a topic of understaffing. It also can happen in circumstances of balance, or depending on local factors such as short budgets or poor working conditions (Huber, 2014). Researchers state that there is the several primary reasons cause the NS. The US population grows, and the Baby Boom generation was aging, will create an increased demand for nursing care.
