Personal communication used to be about one-on-one interaction—whether it would be in person or over the phone. Even group reunions used to be about one-on-one. Now personal communication involves photos, statuses, and likes and very little one-on-one. With the revolution of social media, people have become so dependent on it in their daily life, a life example of that is the worldwide use of Facebook. People can use Facebook for many different reasons: to meet new people, to talk to people they used to know and to keep up to date with each other.
Facebook is a social utility that can help people communicate with their friends, family, and coworkers. Since 2004, Facebook has grown from being in one school to having over 200 million people in their network by 2009 (Nauert 1).The company has been developing technologies that can facilitate the sharing of information through the digital mapping of people’s real-world social connections. Facebook depend on mobile and web-based technologies. It creates highly interactive platforms through which individuals and communities share, discuss, and modify stories photos and information. Anyone can sign up for the utility and interact with people they know. As Rick Nauert states, “The purpose is to reinforce established friendships and form bonds with new friends” (Nauert 1).
