“The word "freedom" has many other uses -- political freedom being the foremost among these – but the kind of freedom that I am talking about could be exercised even if a person lay encased in chains, or had a gun aimed at his head. It is the freedom of the mind from causal determination, not the freedom from physical constraints or threats of violence.” (Caplan, 2014) Today most of us do not believe in the tactics of free will. According to Meriam Webster dictionary free will is the power of making free choices that are unconstrained by external circumstances or by an agency such as fate of divine will. To those who know and understand the concept of free will still have a tendency to question if free will exist or not. Free will is the basis of many other philosophical terms, such as existentialism. Philosophers have determined that there the relationships linking free will are compatibilism and incompatibilism. According to The Love of Wisdom dictionary incompatibilism is the view that human freedom and moral responsibility are incompatible with determinism. On the contrary according to Cowan and Spiegel compatibilism is the view that freedom and determinism are logically compatible. Before moving on and focusing on the topic of free will here’s a little about existentialism and its ties to the topic.
