When it comes to the corporate social responsibility of any corporation a good SWOT certainly can be very helpful in understanding the big picture. SWOT analysis gives a very high level overview and as much as it helps re-state the current good efforts of the company it also points out weaknesses, but also some potential opportunities too. SWOT analysis is a widely used technique that takes into consideration internal and external factors. Internal factors can be favorable (strengths – S) or unfavorable (weaknesses – W), while external factors can also be favorable (opportunities – O) or unfavorable (threats – T). This technique is based on the assumption that any effective strategy lays somewhere in between internal resources and external situation. More successful corporations maximize their strengths and opportunities, while they try to minimize weaknesses and threats. This paper will take a closer look into one such analysis of internal and external factors related to corporate social responsibility of Aon. Most analysis will be based on the value chain method described in the paper “Strategy Society – The link between competitive advantage and corporate social responsibility” by Michael E. Porter and Mark R. Kramer. In order to speak about corporate social responsibility internal resources, we have to look into Strengths and Weaknesses of Aon.
