There are many policies to fight the “War on Poverty”. One of the policies I found helpful is the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This act provided investment in poverty. Poverty has a lot to do with food and not being able to get adequate nutrition. The act gives $20 billion to support the hunger and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (The White House, 2015, Para 3). This will support food stamps and also food banks. This section of the act also helps out programs for woman, infants, and children to ensure they are properly fed. Also, $2 billion was sent to Neighborhood Stabilization Funds (The White House, 2015, Para 4) . It helps keep ailing neighborhoods vitalized. Homelessness Prevention Fund was also given a billion dollars to help keep people in their homes and not on the street. Funding was increased to help community service. The government sent $5 billion dollars to help low income individuals with their energy bills (The White House, 2015, Para 7). The policy enabled projects to be performed on peoples’ homes to make them more energy efficient. It also helped out with different job training programs and invested money in the job force system (The White House, 2015, Para 2). This also helped young people get summer jobs, which increased income support and unemployment insurance wages were raised. The act also gave tax breaks to families.
