“True leadership is modeled by those who live by proper application of Godliness and principles found in the Word of God, and being consistent with those principles that they teach” (M.Moore, et. Al, 2003). Readings state that Nixon knew about the Watergate Espionage operation before it happened but he tried to cover it up, raising “hush money” for burglars, and in a persistent effort to stop the FBI from investigating the crime. Was it biblical to pardon him? Was it ethical? “All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God” (Rms 3:23). We may have tried to cover up our sins; we may have tried to lie about situations and circumstances in our lives. As a result of God’s grace, He forgives us and restores. “Come unto me all that are laden and heavy laden and I will give you rest for my yoke is easy and burdens light” (Matt. 11:28). In our attempts to cover sin it becomes a relationship with God sort of thing, if you will. However, this was with the American People, threats to National Security were made and barriers in National Security were breached. According to Washington Post writers Bob Woodard and Carl Bernstein, “The American Presidency will never be the same.” “Thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not covet anything of thy neighbor, and thou shalt not bear false witness.” All of these scriptural rules were broken during the Watergate Scandal.
