The CIEE program that I am going to is the International Summer School at Yonsei University. Yonsei University is a private research university, located in Seoul, South Korea. Established in 1885, it is one of the oldest universities in South Korea and is known as being the one of the top comprehensive international university in Korea. Yonsei University has a spacious and well-wooded campus located minutes away from the economic, political, and cultural center of Seoul 's metropolitan area.
The reason I chose South Korea is because I have been fascinated by the culture for a year and a half, and I want to be able to gain the full experience of the culture first hand. There are several reasons which lead to my decision including their entertainment, food, and language. When I first was introduced to the Korean culture I was introduced through music. I was skeptical at first; I thought how can someone like music that’s not in a language that they know. After my cousin showed me some of videos of a popular Korean pop group called Big Bang, I did some research on the videos and artists and I became hooked. I am simply amazed at Korean pop videos how even though I do not know the language their videos tell the stories for me to understand. For example, this song called Haru Haru, Day by Day, by Big Bang, was about a girl having cancer and boyfriend did not know and there was a lot of drama and true love prevails at the end of the video.
