“Quality is a dynamic state associated with products, services, people, processes, and environments that meets or exceeds expectations and helps produce superior value.” (Goetsch & Davis, 2010, p. 5) Quality is an important aspect within every business, and to achieve total quality, businesses must follow the key elements associated with it. This paper will define the key elements of the total quality approach and explain why the elements of quality are useful in today’s environment. Long-term commitment is a key for the survival of any business. Many businesses today rely on short-term commitments to get them by, but they miss out on the future goals that they had set for themselves. With teamwork, continuing education for employees, and employee involvement and empowerment organizations will thrive because he or she will be able to continually improve on all processes, providing more ideas to be presented and creating a unity of purpose. The elements for total quality are not only useful in today’s environment, but also imperative for businesses because they improve the products, the processes that make up the products and the people working to build the products. Achieving total quality can be a reality for any organization if the focus remains on solving and improving on any problems that come up for the customer, employee, product, or process. This cycle should never end, and businesses should strive to do their best to improve every aspect of the organization if they expect to succeed. Total quality was formed by many concepts pulled together to form more of a comprehensive way of doing business. There were many people who helped to create this approach, but the three major contributors were W. Edwards Deming, Joseph M. Juran, and Philip B.
