Uk Immigration Rule Changes For Overseas Students Essay
Recently, Workpermit.com reported that a host of changes were being made to UK immigration rules that would impact overseas students in Britain.
As Home Secretary, Theresa May, looks to crackdown on visa fraud and pursue the Conservative government’s plan to reduce net migration below 100,000 per year, part of tackling these issues involves making it more difficult for international students to remain in the UK upon completion of their studies.
In a recent letter written by Mrs May, she wrote: “Universities should look to develop sustainable funding models that are not heavily reliant on international students.”
Workpermit.com also reported that UK business secretary, Sajid Javid, supports the tough, new UK immigration policies targeting overseas students. Addressing an audience in Birmingham recently, Mr Javid said: “We don 't want a system where studying becomes a motive to settle in Britain and that’s their only motive.”
He added: “People coming to Britain to study should be studying, nothing more. We need to break the link between studying and settling here.”
