When you look at everything surrounding you, do you find meaning in the simplest things? Are you creating a bigger issue than what a problem could be? Are we all living our lives to it’s fullest potential? In the poem, “When Death Comes”, written by Mary Oliver she writes about death and how we should prepare for it. She explains we should live our life in the most abstract thoughtful way possible. She also suggests that we should know the purpose and functions of our surroundings in great detail. I agree with Oliver, that preparing for death should be living life to the fullest because when the time comes we will be assured we lived a purposeful life. This is important because one should not have to live with regrets we should live a life that we are able to look back on and be proud of. All of these ideas can help myself learn and prepare for a better life. I personally find myself stressing about time. The idea of there never being enough time in the day is a constant thought of mine. I could be worried about not having enough time for school or work or just something as important as sleep. A quote that Oliver writes can help be applied to this stress in my life would be, “and I look upon time as no more than an idea / and I consider eternity as another possibility”.
