I graduated from Kean University with a degree in psychology and once I graduated I started my journey wondering where it would take me. Knowing that whatever field I chose I would want to use my understanding, compassion, and motivation to help others. I had no idea it would lead me to teaching. I started volunteering at TRACE in their high school diploma equivalency program over a year ago and that is when I realized, this is where I belong. There is a quote by Harold Whitman, a philosopher and educator, who sums it up perfectly, “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” There are many reasons to why I want to become a teacher, but my first honest response is, because I love doing it.
To me being a teacher is not just about teaching education, it is about teaching it the right way. By using motivation, guiding your students, and making them feel good about learning and their future. It is taking the time to recognize even the smallest of feats and realizing when a student is not grasping the information. I hope to influence my students by being a constant reminder that they can do better and being there to remind them when they are.
As a future educator I hope to use my innovation, creativity, awareness and passion to guide the educational experience. I plan on doing this by being an active educator in this field who recognizes when there is a need for…
