The library user group I decided to focus on throughout the term is Millennials (age 18-34). According to U.S. Census Bureau statistics, there are plenty of them to study, 80 million plus (the largest cohort size in history). Millennials in the United States today face the challenges of achieving financial and social independence—while forming their own households—at a time of economic uncertainty. Policymakers and the public need a better understanding of the achievements and needs of these Millennials in order to support them effectively in the transition to adulthood. (American Institute of Research). The purpose of this paper is to look at older adults’ information seeking behaviors and needs. Understanding their information seeking behaviors and needs will allow information professionals to better help them in their search for information and help them continue to retain their independence.
In 2014 89% of Millennials used social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn (Pew Research). Since so many Millennials use social media sites, it is no wonder these specific site are also changing how one finds a job. LinkedIn started in late 2002, and already has 332,000,000 registered users (LinkedIn). That just shows how quickly technology is changing.
