The spring in a small town is a movie that really left a deep impression to me. Neither because it was produced in a special period of times in china nor the significance of movie that director want to express to audience. I was surprised by a few scenes that could represent the struggling issue of morality in the movie, which really lead me to consider lots of other things may beyond this movie itself into tradition ethics and human nature. Taking place in a ruined family compound after the anti-Japanese War, the film tells the story of the once prosperous Dai family. The scene that Yuwen go to Zhichen’s room after Dai Xiu’s birthday is the second and the most obvious one that show the struggle about the relationship between them. The movements are the key in that scene, which show the desire of love and conflict between them. For example Yuwen put off the fire of the match to keep the dark of the room and Zhichen hold her up then put her down right away. These kinds of movements make clearly expression what they really want in their deep hearts but there are always something stop Zhichen even Yuwen already throw herself up to him. That is the morality. And Zhichen is not only one who is suffering in this, there is a scene latter that Liyan asked Yuwen whether she is still falling love with Zhichen. Yuwen cannot say a single word for a while except reveal a miserable looking then just leave the room. From what I can tell here, both Liyan and Yuwen know the answer to that question but Yuwen is not able to make her mind because she does know that she cannot leave Liyan just like that then go with Zhichen, and that is because of kindness and ethic. At the end of movie, Zhichen
