Final Reflection: Grasping the Writing Process Essay

Writing papers has been one of my biggest fears as a student. High school English class prepared me for the editing of my essays, for example, grammatical errors, spelling, font errors, and things that were under the category of fixing my paper. I realized that the writing process requires more than just editing, you have to understand that the paper is like a human body, it cannot function if every single part is not effective. I can certainly say that I have improved as a writer a great deal and this portfolio and the final revised drafts of my work certainly can argue for that. From works cited corrections to maintaining my ethos, both of my group members took the time to effectively peer review my paper.
Peer review could be improved by maybe having a session where we revise and have our peer review groups critique our papers one more time before we turn it in to the professor. Not all peer review groups were effective because some individuals did not complete the task of reviewing or they completed the peer review sheet but did not actually read their writers paper. At first, I felt that my group was scared and hesitant to give me negative feedback because they were worried that they would be too harsh. For example, in my comparative analysis essay, one of my reviewers mentioned that I had a good arguable claim in my introduction, but instead of directly saying I contradicted myself in the sentence after, she kind of hinted it when we were sitting down. As we progressed on in the class, we became more comfortable with each other so the criticism was more visible which was good because I knew what needed to be revised. Peer Review was a great aspect in my college writing class, and a positive influence on my essays. I was already nervous at first about this English class; English isn’t my forte and neither is writing essays.
