For this project, I went to an authentic Spanish restaurant named Cafe Iberico. The restaurant was centered around tapas, or small dishes. The inside was covered in tile which was similar to Spain where they used tile on all the buildings and even sidewalks. The rest of the restaurant looked very genuine, with Spanish paintings hung along the wall. The restaurant had a tapas bar which presented a large display of tapas in a large glass case where people could order from the bar. The restaurant even had a small deli in the back where people could get Spanish cheese, and many types of Spanish sausage that included chorizo and morcillia (blood sausage). It can be served as a tapa or to accompany any dish. In the Valencian region it is made with egg while in the Catalan region the egg is left out. The next dish we ordered was the Jamon Iberico. The dish was a combination of jamon, manchengo cheese, and toasted bread with a tomato garnish on top. The dish was very tasty, the ham was very salty and sliced very thin, the bread with tomato had a fresh flavor and the crunch of the bread was delicious. The Manchengo cheese was very tasty and had a very sharp taste. The jamon and cheese is one of the most traditional dishes in Spain. The jamon is commonly prepared by being aged in a salt solution, and is not commonly cooked. Manchengo cheese is commonly prepared out of sheeps milk and commonly served with jamon all throughout Spain. The bread and tomato is a traditional Spanish dish home to Catalan, but it was assumed that it was brought into Spain by Andalusian immigrants. This dish can be served as a breakfast food or as a tapa. The next dish served was called Salpicon de Marisco. It was a seafood dish that included many different types of seafood such as shrimp, octopus, and calamari. There was a balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing on top. The dish was good and the seafood was fresh, the olive oil and vinegar also made it very tasty. The seafood salad is commonly prepared as a summer dish due to the lightness and freshness.
