The Life of my Dog Precious Essay
Within the animal kingdom, few animals have the characteristics to co exist with humans. Dogs, however, are the exception. For centuries dogs have been known as man’s best friend. Throughout the test of time dogs have proven to be the most loyal and the truest friends. “Dogs are not just our proverbial best friends in the animal world but probably our oldest” (Phillips 12). With this in mind I understand the reason that my dog Precious is my most treasured and loyal friend.

A few years down the road, Precious finally had gotten out of chewing things up, but never overcame her fear of being locked up by herself. The summer before my seventh grade year, my family went on vacation to Myrtle Beach. We arrived home to find that Precious was missing. I was devastated. I cried for days. It was like I had lost my best friend in the whole world. My dad put an article in the newspaper, called the police, and called the people who had stayed in our rental cabin directly below our house. There was no luck with the newspaper or the police, but the cabin renters said that they had not seen the dog the entire time that they stayed. We knew they were lying because the cabin cleaners found dog food cans in the trash. My dad called back and they quickly denied taking her. Later that week my dad had his friend, who is the sheriff in my hometown, call the renters back to ask just one more time. They said they had taken Precious but they could not find her. The sheriff told them they had three days to find the dog and have her back in Gatlinburg, or they were going to be prosecuted. What had happened was that they had locked
