“Bandura’s goal in developing his social-cognitive theory was to modify or change those learned behaviors that society considers undesirable and abnormal” (Schultz & Schultz, 2013, p. 341). Not only was Antwone molested but he was also tortured with fired, tied up, and beat. He was afraid of being left alone. This could cause fears and phobias. A counselor can used a technique called guided participated (Schultz & Schultz, 2013). This means that another models is observed. Dr. Davenport was a great example of a man that showed compassion. He made an impact in Antwone’s life. Covert modeling is when a model does not have to be present (Schultz & Schultz, 2013).
Also, Carl Roger’s self-actualization theory gives another perspective. Roger’s believed that the “self is a consistent pattern, an organized whole” (Schultz & Schultz, 2013, p. 270). A baby need to receive positive regard (Schultz & Schultz, 2013). This means that they should be loved and cared for. This is something that Antwone did not experience in his childhood. Even though Antwone only knew his foster mother, she had an effect on his life. As a child, he was not given positive regard. As a result Antwone’s ability to develop was stifled
